Planning on driving on a Friday between 6-7pm in Hammersmith & Fulham? You may want to take extra caution, as research completed by Whites Traffic Management revealed that this was statistically the most likely time for road traffic accidents across the borough.*
The most common month for collisions? October, a month known for hazards like wet leaves, sun glare, and decreasing daylight.
The figures, based on over 10 years of the Department for Transport’s road safety statistics**, indicate that drivers are more likely to experience collisions in Hammersmith & Fulham during the weekday, with the highest number of collisions occurring on a Friday.
In contrast, the least likely day across Hammersmith & Fulham for crashes is a Sunday, and fewest collisions happened between 4-5am, compared to the rest of the day.
Luke Dempson, Head of Communications at Whites Traffic Management, said:
“Transport for London data*** tells us that Londoners take almost 10 million car journeys daily, and it’s important for every one of those drivers to take care on the roads.
“Our research showed that the evening rush hour on a Friday is the most likely time for a collision to happen in the borough. Potential causes could include the stress of commuting congestions and the fatigue drivers experience at the end of a working week.
“We also found that October is historically the worst month for collisions in Hammersmith & Fulham, with November right behind that. Both of these months pose extra safety hazards on the roads with the incidences of sunglare and decreasing daylight.
“Our passion at Whites Traffic Management is to help our clients ensure that every traffic management project is safe for drivers, pedestrians, and the traffic management operatives involved in directing the flow of traffic.
“These findings highlight just how important it is for traffic management plans across the borough to take the busiest periods on Hammersmith’s roads into account.
